FISH Committees and Volunteering
The FISH organization relies heavily
on the support of its volunteers. We are reaching out to our membership
to organize, support and help out during the FISH season in many different ways. We host four
swim meets per season, engage in different fundraising efforts, and organize
social events for our swimmers. Basically, we have three committees and we
are always looking for new parents to join.
1. Swim Meet Committee/Officials'
Committee (SMOC)
One of our most important committees to assure hosting "technically superior" meets is the Swim Meet Committee and Officials' Committee. Please read about our VolunteerObligationPolicy.
The SMOC, chaired by Team Manager, Monika Paris, provides a focus to ensure the
availability of the necessary resources for home and away swim meets and the
coordination of set up for a meet and restoration of the pool following the
event.
Every team that hosts meets needs officials. The Officials' Committee work, is crucial to the existence of FISH hosted meets. Without officials, we cannot host a meet. If you are interested in becoming an official, please contact Al Meilus and he will guide you through the process. It is the best spot on deck when you serve as an official. That is where all the "action" takes place.
Every team that hosts meets needs to provide hospitality to our feed our guest coaches, officials and our coaches. The Hospitality Committee is chaired by Chris McCreary and Chris has dazzled everyone with her wonderful food. All of PVS is talking about the incredible hospitality that is provided at FISH hosted meets. If you like to get involved with our Hospitality Committee, please contact Chris McCreary and ask her how you can help.
We at the FISH like to provide our swimmers and our guests with nutritious snacks and drinks throughout the meets that we host. Concessions is a crucial part of hosting a successful meet and we are looking for a few parents who would like to take on this very important responsibility of organizing and managing concessions.
The Fundraising Committee is busy all year. Its mission is to generate funds to support the vision and mission of The FISH. Our goal is to raise money in order to provide continuing education to our coaches, support our coaches when traveling to meets, equipment, awards, and host high quality social events by generating funds through various activities such as; outreach events, sponsorships, campaigns and grants to support our swimmers in attaining personal excellence. Fundraising events and projects that have been very successful in the past shall be presented to the Fundraising Chair Christina Ewing or to the Team Manager for approval prior to implementation. Our major fundraising activities are:
- Halloween Candy Sale in October - Claudia Bernstein
- Spirit Wear (Fall and Spring) - Thuy Nguyen
- Swim - A - Thon in April - Christina Ewing
- SCRIP (ongoing) - Keri Greenblatt
3. Social Committee Mission Statement
The Social Committee's main
objective is to develop and coordinate events that enhance team morale and
develop community spirit among FISH team members. We are always looking for new
ideas to bring our swimmers together outside the pool and provide them with an
opportunity to get to know each other.
This year, we have organized a camp-out, a bike ride, a dinner-out, a
bowling/ Christmas party, and a laser tag gathering. This committee also
coordinates the end of the year picnic to provide needed recognition to FISH
swimmers for their year long focus on success. If you would like to serve
on this committee, please get in touch with either Vickie Longosz or Claudia Bernstein and bring in your own ideas of what
else we can organize to foster team spirit and bring our swimmers together.
