B. Preparing for JO's 2001

The beginning of each year provides a chance to discover the benefits  from the intense, extra practices over winter break, and to swim events not normally swum during the championship season of March.

Kate was no exception to this philosophy, surprising herself with an A time in her weakest event the 50 Breast, and attaining a AA time in the 100 Back both at the January Open. She used the Tri-Meet with HACC and MAKO to swim the 200 Breast ( shock) and 200 Fly (shock) for the first time, achieving a times in both.

The busy period of January and Mid-February was highlighted with Kate achieving  a AA time in the 500 Free at the Mid-Atlantic Elite Invitational at GCIT. Kate was thrilled with her time of 5:46.03, which represented a whopping 13 second improvement. Kate also enjoyed the excitement of swimming finals at that meet, in the 50 Fly and the 100 Fly; unfortunately, she couldn´t better her prelims times, but the experience she gained from this would prove to be very valuable at the upcoming PVS JO´s.
