About Kate Ziegler

Kate_portrait_scaled.jpgKate Ziegler was born in 1988 and has been training with Head Coach Ray Benecki of the FISH for more than 10 years who developed her into the best female distance swimmer in the world.

Career Highlights:

  • Kate broke the longest-standing swimming world record when she obliterated Janet Evans' world record in the 1500 freestyle in June 2007.
  • Kate won World Championship gold in the 800 and 1500 m freestyle in 2007.
  • Kate was the double gold medalist in the 800 m and 1500 m freestyle at the Pan Pacifics and 2005 World Championships.
  • Kate has won four medals (one of which is gold) in two appearances at the SC World Champs in 2004 and 2006
  • Kate first broke Skippy Woodhead's 25-year-old American Record in the 800m free at the 2005 World Cup stop in New York which at the time presented the oldest standing American Record.
  • Kate also took two of Janet Evans' distance freestyle records down, setting new records in the 500 y free in Feb' 06 and in the 1000 y free in Dec. 05.

  • 400 m Freestyle, 4:04.24, in July 2007
  • 800 m Freestyle, 8:18.53, in March 2007
  • 1500m Freestyle, 15:42.54, in June 2007
