Class of 2010 - Brooke Ream

written by Matt Pelletier

Brooke Ream has been a member of The FISH for the better part of 9 years, starting off in Advanced Age Group and progressing all the way to Awesome Fish.  Brooke has made it this far with a goal-oriented attitude, a strong work ethic, and a desire to improve both as a person and an athlete.

Brooke will be attending The University of Virginia in the fall, and she feels that her time spent with the FISH has prepared her for the rigorous academics that lay ahead in Charlottesville.  Although Brooke will not continue her swimming career at Virginia, she is looking forward to meeting new people and trying new things in college.

Please join us in wishing her well in all her future endeavors, and read on to get to know a little more about her experience with FISH.

Good Luck Brooke!

1.     When did you join the FISH and what has been your most memorable experience while being on the team?

I joined the FISH the summer of 2001 in Advanced Age Group when I was 10 years old. My most memorable experiences were traveling to San Luis Potosi in Mexico to train at the La Loma Altitude Training Center for a week with Terrific FISH and spending ten days last summer swimming with Awesome FISH and a German team in Essen, Germany. Both were amazing experiences.

2.     What was your most rewarding and exciting meet during your FISH career?

My most rewarding and exciting meet during my FISH career was last summer at Eastern Zones. I swam well with many best times, roomed with my best friend and teammate, enjoyed meeting swimmers from all over PVS and joining together to compete as one team.

3.     What is your favorite set?

IM sets

4.     What are your favorite events?

My favorite events are the 200IM and the 400IM.

5.     What is the biggest challenge for you in swimming?

The biggest challenge for me in swimming is the fact that you have to train so hard for what often is a very minor improvement in times.

6.     What motivates you the most?

I am motivated by achieving my goals and getting cuts for the bigger meets.

7.     Which aspects of swimming do you apply in everyday life?

I have learned from swimming that I can push myself to achieve my goals and I have been able to apply that to my academics. I have also learned to enjoy each moment along the way.

8.     You are beginning a new chapter in your life, college. What are you most looking forward to? Do you think you are well prepared?

I am looking forward to making new friends, learning more about the things I am interested in, and having time to try new activities in college. I feel swimming in Awesome and juggling my academics and a social life have prepared me for UVA.

9.     What advice can you give your teammates in your group and especially your younger teammates who are just starting out?

Enjoy each practice and every meet. Enjoy being with your teammates. Encourage one another.

10.   Tell me a little bit about you, what do you like to do when you are not swimming or busy with schoolwork?

I enjoy hanging out with friends, being outside, shopping, and coaching my summer swim team.
