Written by Josh Hyde
Adam Pennington has been a member
of the FISH swim team for a long time, starting as a Mini FISH and progressing all the way up
to the Awesome FISH. He reached this level through hard work and a dedication
to the sport of swimming that has helped him become one of the top swimmers
throughout PVS.
Next year, Adam will be attending
Columbia University in New York City. He is looking forward to his time in the
"Big Apple" and is excited about the new challenges that lie ahead both in school
and in the water.
Please join us in wishing him well
in all his future endeavors, and read on to get to know a little more about his
experience with The FISH.
Good Luck Adam!
When did you join the FISH and what has been your most memorable experience while being on the team?
I joined the Fish in third grade when I was 8 years old. My most memorable experience was when Michael, Matthew, and I all got our World Championships Trials in the 1000 at Sectionals last year, 2009.
What was your most rewarding and exciting meet during your FISH career?
World Championship Trials in Indianapolis, because I got to watch a lot of very fast swimmers compete and the athletes' lounge was sweet.
What is your most favorite set?
Any kick set because kicking with kickboards is awesome.
What are your favorite events?
I like 50 meter backstroke, but only if it's long course. It's nice and short and it doesn't make me too tired.
What is the biggest challenge for you in swimming?
Waking up for morning practice! It requires the willpower of 1,000 Buddhist monks to get myself out of bed.
What motivates you most?
Beating people, or getting a cut for a national meet that I had wanted for a very long time.
Which aspects of swimming do you apply in every day life?
Swimming gives me a lot of confidence and I apply that to other areas of my life.
You are beginning a new swimming chapter, swimming in college. What are you most looking forward to? Do you think you are well prepared?
The amount of free time I'll have to do other things in New York and the increased competition. I know I am well prepared because no college program is harder or more intense than Coach Ray's.
What advice can you give your teammates in your group and especially your younger teammates who are just starting out?
Listen to Coach Ray!
Watch SportsCenter, play video games, follow the New Orleans Saints, sleep, and eat fine cuisine.
