October 2011 Archives

Congratulations to everyone who swam at the MSSC Senior Meet this past weekend!  It was a great meet overall, with a lot of best times and fast swimming.  It was very exciting to watch all of our swimmer's hard work from the summer and preseason pay off.  The meet was a great indicator of where our swimmers are in their training and what improvements they need to make to swim faster the rest of the season.  The meet was a great way to begin the 2011-2012 season.

Please follow the link below to see the many best times gotten by the FISH swimmers at the meet.  Many of our FISH swimmers got several best times, some by quite a large margin.  This is very indicative of the hard work they have been putting into their training.  Keep up the hard work and keep dropping time!

Congratulations to all of our FISH swimmers who swam at the Gator Mini Meet this past weekend!  It was a lot of fun to see the FISH win their races in convincing fashion.  Some of our Minis deserve a special mention for breaking FISH Team Records this weekend.  These swimmers are:

  • Nicolas Arndt in the 25 Back and 25 Fly
  • Andrew Bernstein in the 25 Free, and 50 Back
  • JT Ewing in the 50 Fly

We saw best times almost every time one of the FISH swimmers entered the water.  Please use the following link to see the best times list.

This weekend's great results are a testament to the hard work the swimmers have been putting into the water since the season started.  The Gator Mini Meet was a great way for the FISH to start the season.  The coaches at the FISH encourage our swimmers to keep up the hard work so we keep seeing amazing results!!

Do you believe protein is the "magic pill" of sports nutrition, or are you just making ends meet, trying to get enough protein in your diet? Boasting benefits like enhanced sports performance, muscle gain and improved post-event recovery, protein seems to have magical powers, and swimmers are looking for more.

Protein is a necessary part of every child's diet. It is fundamental for organ function, new tissue development and the repair of muscle damage. Children need protein to stay healthy and grow.

The average child, aged 9-13 years, needs about 0.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Youth swimmers and other young athletes have a slightly higher protein requirement and need about 0.5-0.7 grams per pound of body weight, depending on age and gender.

Hello Everyone at the FISH!

I was just thinking about the Mini FISH and you guys... I hope everything this going well.

I am having a great time at VCU and I just joined the swim club! It's a very chill club, you don't have to try out or anything and it is relaxed. The swimmers here are so nice, I think I'm going to have a lot fun with them. I can't wait for the first meet; I've never swam on a team that travels around because I was homeschooled, so I'm pretty excited. Plus my summer league team was very small and mostly comprised of younger kids, so getting to be around a lot of swimmers my age and older is a nice change. Greetings to everyone and I miss you all.

It's not always easy to make a big move right before you begin 8th grade.  There is a new school to get used to and new friends to meet.  In Emma Thomas's case, there is also a brand new swim team, a swim team which offers a significantly more challenging program than Emma's previous program.  Through all of these challenges, Emma has always had a great attitude and a big smile.  It is for this reason that Emma is Fish of the Month for September.
