On Saturday, July 21st, 14-year old Jessica Rogers flew to Michigan for the National Junior Disabled Sports Banquet where she was presented with the National Junior Athlete of the Year Award sponsored by Sports 'N Spokes Magazine.
Jessica was nominated for her steady rise in paralympic swimming competition, having recently been named to the USA Swim Team for the Parapan competition in Mexico this coming November. Her involvement with the FISH swim team locally was mentioned, and her successes in junior wheelchair basketball and wheelchair track with the Bennett Blazers sports team were also noted.
Jessica was also commended for her creation of an association for people
with caudal regression syndrome, The CRS Association, which has an active,
world wide following on face book and a website of information for parents and
persons who have CRS. As the winner of the award this year, Jessica received a
beautifully engraved plaque, a year's subscription to Sports 'N Spokes
Magazine, and a brand new custom fitted wheelchair, courtesy of TiLite
Wheelchairs. An in depth article about Jessica will soon appear in Sports 'N
Spokes Magazine.
