Best Times Report created by Coach Ray.
Dear FISH Parents,
Before Coach David talks about the actual swimming,
I would like to take this opportunity and thank all FISH parents who supported
our first Super FISH Bowl. FISH parents volunteered their time by setting
up the meet, officiating, timing, marshaling, running computers and timing
systems, helping out in hospitality and concessions, and helping breaking down
the meet at the end. FISH parents
donated food and money for concessions and hospitality so that everyone could
refuel during the meet.
A big thank
you goes to a few very special FISH parents - Al Meilus, Cara Meilus, Chris
McCreary and Julie Williams - who worked many hours before the meet
actually started and who worked all sessions of the meet.
We appreciate all your efforts and a
successful meet like this one, would not have been possible without the support
of our parents.
Sincerely,
Monika Paris and the entire FISH Staff

And what about the swimming.......
I think everyone knows what the top highlight of the first ever Super
FISH Bowl was. David Pursley ran away with the 50 Breast (leaving that other coach in his wake),
demonstrating raw untainted power in his pullouts and phenomenal turn........
As fun as it was to relive our swimming
careers for a brief moment, the meet was much more than just a fun new format.
The way the meet was set up gave our younger swimmers a chance to swim
against some of the older swimmers from other teams and really challenge
themselves. I can speak for all the
coaches by saying that we were very
impressed with our swimmers this past weekend. Qualifying times for the championship meets were swum made left and right.
Our swimmers took their races seriously and showed up prepared to
race.
Both girls' sessions ran very smoothly making it easy on the coaches.
The individual performances this weekend shed light on who will be swimming the end of season relays and we also raised the competition level within our
team. There were several girls
that came within tenths of seconds of their qualifying times. It's always hard to barely miss a goal
but the FISH Bowl was not the last chance. The best part of the meet has yet to come. It is what we learn from the meet that
will make it a success. Those
girls that came close need to make only minor adjustments. If we focus on those little details and
buckle down over the next month those times are sure to come. So if you were one of those girls lets
train with a chip on our shoulder through the rest of February.
The boys' sessions, although a success,
were not quite as smooth. The old
saying "boys will be boys" is a weak excuse. We had far too many missed events and missed opportunities
to get race feedback from the coaches. The horsing around immediately before and after a race
needs to stop and we need to be more focused on every race. We did have a positive side with some
tough swims and lots of qualifications.
A few swimmers had a tough double of 200 breast and 200 fly with only
heats apart. The boys stepped up
to the challenge and swam with a refreshing intensity. As with the girls, many boys also came
within tenths of qualifying. The
next month is key for the whole team, so let's all keep our focus.
