written by Coach Gunther

The Maryland State Champs were held at the MAC swim center in Maryland last weekend.  Twenty three FISH swimmers participated and swam spectacular at the meet. The FISH swam so well, setting many personal best times.  Along the way, swimmers qualified for more Age Group Champs and Zone events.

In addition, the FISH finish 4th overall with only 23 swimmers participating in the meet and swimming only 5 relays!

In addition, FISH swimmers broke 7 meet records!

In the 10 - under girls 200 Individual Medley, Isabella Rongione's time of 2:42.78 broke a record that had stood since 1991.

In the 200 meter freestyle, two FISH swimmers broke a record that had stood since 1988!  Michelle Owens recorded a time of 2:28.07. Isabella Rongione's time of 2:21.10 destroyed the old mark by over 7 seconds.

The 10-under girls 100 freestyle complete Isabella's record breaking  trifecta.  Isabella set the new standard of 1:05.24 in that event.

The 9-10 girls relay teams also established new meet records. Claire Wolff, Joanne Fu, Michelle Owens and Isabella Rongione swam brilliantly in establishing new meet records in both the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relay.  In the 200 freestyle relay, the girls knocked almost 3 seconds off of the previous mark!

In the 11-12 girls 200 meter backstroke, Emily Meilus broke a record that had stood for 10 years.  Emily's time of 2:28.67, shattered the old record by nearly 4 seconds.  The old record was set by current SMU standout Jennifer Bassel.

Chris Murphy made sure that the girls weren't the only ones having record breaking fun! In the 11-12 boys 50 meter backstroke, Chris led from the start to establish the new record with a 31.07.

In addition to breaking numerous meet records, the FISH swam away with many of the meets top honors.  These included, Isabella Rongione, winning the individual high point award at the meet.
