Thursday, April 1st - First Day at Zones

The FISH swim team is off to a great start at the 2010 Eastern Zones SC Championships in Webster, NY.

The first race of the day in which the FISH swimmers dominated, was the Women's 10 & Under 100 Yard Freestyle.   Emily Meilus swam a personal best time of 56.88 (breaking the PVS Resident Record) and took second place.  Isabella Rongione came in third with a time of 57.82.

The Women's 100 Yard Freestyle race seemed just to be a warm-up for the FISH swimmers.  Only a few hours later, Isabella Rongione, Emily Meilus, and Michelle Owens faced each other in the Women's 10 & Under 500 Yard Freestyle race.  And what a race it was!!  They all took time off and Isabella Rongione set yet another breath-taking record with a time of 5:25.23, dropping nearly 3 seconds off her recent best time swum at the Junior Olympics, taking first place.  Just in case you didn't know, 5:26.22 was Elizabeth Beisel's Zone record - she went on to the 2008 Olympics!  Emily Meilus came in second, also with a fantastic best time of 5:27.44, taking nearly five seconds off of her best time which she achieved at the Junior Olympics just two weeks ago.  Michelle Owens took sixth place making her best time a 5:46.75 after swimming a tough 200 IM earlier.

In the Women's 10 & Under 50 Fly, Joanne Fu swam a personal best time of 30.21, taking 5th place.  She keeps getting faster and faster!  The taper must have worked.

In the Women's 10 & Under 200 IM, Michelle Owens took fourth place with a best time of 2:26.80.  This is a fantastic time.  She really is tough in all four strokes.

On the men's side, 11 & 12 Men's 100 Freestyle, Christopher Murphy took second place with a fast time of 52.71.

In the Women's 10 & Under 200 Freestyle Relay,  Isabella Rongione and Emily Meilus had amazing splits and Potomac Valley took first place with a time of 1:49.28.

In the Men's 11&12 400 Freestyle Relay, Christopher Murphy let off the relay and Potomac Valley took first place with a time of 3:32.06.

Congratulations to all!  Let's see what tomorrow brings!
