Last weekend, the Mini FISH participated at the Mini Gator
Meet. The FISH swam very well at the meet. Personal best times were recorded by all 26 of our
swimmers. The Mini FISH
showed excellent improvement in the racing skills, disqualifications were minimal
for this meet. We will continue to
focus on improving our starts, turns, and finishes during Mini practices.
Highlights from the meet included: John Bradshaw placed 1st
in 3 races. Dereck Charles placed 2nd in 3 events and recorded "B" times.
Jillian Johnson took first in the 25 freestyle. Daniel Li recorded a "B" time
and placed first in the 50 back.
Phillip Pan placed 2nd in two events. Nick Spicer achieved his first "BB"
time at the meet in the 50 backstroke.
Despite the week long "snowpocalyse" interruption
to all our schedules, FISH athletes had some impressive performances at an
interesting and exciting President's Day Meet in Manassas.
During Friday evenings marathon session, Grace Gent and
Joanne Fu each raced the 200y freestyle twice in a 10 minutes span thanks to a
error with the starting system. Both young ladies "left it all in the
pool" (if you know Grace, ask her about her finish!) and managed to place
1st and 2nd in their age group. After a 20 minute clean up break, the meet
resumed action and 10 year old Emily Meilus won the Open Women's 200y
backstroke with an impressive 2:16.50 in only her second time competing in the
event. That time currently ranks 3rd for 12 & Under girls in the PVS LSC.
Chris Murphy had a great weekend, swimming 100% personal
best times. Chris' times from the weekend in the 100 Free (53.42), 500 Free
(5:13.22), 50 Fly (27.15) and 100 IM (1:02.74) are all #1 rankings for 11-12
boys in PVS LSC.
The FISH contingent of 10 & Under girls continued to
impress with many best times throughout the weekend, including a 1st - 5th
sweep of the 50 butterfly! Isabella Rongione, Joanne Fu, Emily Meilus, Michelle
Owens and Grace Gent dominated the field with their lifetime best butterfly
times: 29.76, 30.61, 32.12, 33.51 and 33.97.
Keep swimming hard, FISH!
