As Forrest Gump so eloquently put it, this meet proved to be a lot like a box of chocolates - you never knew what you were going to get! Whether it was outstanding performances in the water or dodging flying swim cap water bombs from the 10 and under boys, FISH athletes and coaches had an exciting weekend.
One memorable moment during the Saturday morning session occurred just after Elizabeth Longosz had made her Junior Olympics cut in the 200 fly; Coach Gunther met Elizabeth as she was heading to the cool down area and asked how she felt, to which Elizabeth replied, "that hurt so bad - but it was totally worth it!" So, if you see Elizabeth this week, be sure to congratulate her on her achievement and maybe offer her some Advil.
A few other highlights include: Sydney Harrington dropping over 30 seconds in her events while adding 2 events to her 14&U Junior Olympics lineup; Bryce Huber dropping over 15 seconds in her 200IM and 100 Fly; Ben Sharrer swimming 100% best times and adding the 200 free to his JO's event lineup; and Grant Williams dropping nearly 20 seconds and adding a couple events to his JO event lineup.
This meet proved to be a great benchmark to see exactly where we are in our training and most certainly helped further prepare our athletes as we head into the rest of the championships season. Keep up the great training, FISH!
