November Open 2009 in Review

Written By Josh Morgan

AWESOME MEET CREW!

FISH parents and volunteers received great reviews from visiting teams and officials ranging from "this is way better than the October Open" from a visiting official to "Mmph mmmrrrff mmmuph!" from a visiting coach with a mouthful of Anita's chicken. Running a meet with 700 athletes is quite a task, but everyone pulled together and things ran without a hitch. Thanks to everyone from our officials, Hytek and Colorado operators, timers and runners, marshals and deck supervisors, hospitality and concessions workers to all those who made donations! Way to hit a home run at your first at bat!

November Open

HOW ABOUT THE ATHLETES?

Coaches had very positive comments about the FISH athlete's performances at the November Open. This meet means different things to athletes of different ages and abilities, but just about every FISH swimmer had "positives" to take away from the meet. The biggest area of improvement sited by the coaching staff was in stroke technique. Compared to the Harvest Moon and MSSC Senior Meet meets, athletes in all practice groups showed some real marked improvements. Many younger FISH from AG, AAG, TF and IF used their new stroke technique skills to qualify for the Tom Dolan Invitational and Junior Olympics for the first time. For older FISH swimmers, the November Open is more of a preparatory meet for the upcoming Tom Dolan Invitational and Christmas Championships. FISH swimmers in the 13-14 and 15 & Older divisions had success in practicing race strategies, swimming their "off" events and working on their meet management skills.

SUPER SWIMS!     Best Times

As in every meet, there are a handful of athletes who's performances really stick out.  From AG practices at Wakefield, Jessica Rogers bettered the American Record for her disability class in the 100y breaststroke! WOW, GREAT JOB!

From AAG: Grace Gent, Callan Cramer, Michelle Lovering and Claire Wolff all hit some new qualifying times, but not as many as Casey Storch, who went 8 for 8 in qualifying for 14 & Under Junior Olympics in every event he swam!

From TF: Kaylyn Macaluso and Ian Russiello both were consistently TERRIFIC during the meet.

From IF: Wesley Diener led the way with 100% personal best times, followed closely by Alexandra Cramer, Matt Eshleman, Veronica Wolff, and Amy and Michelle Owens.

From AF: Ryan Williams had a great 1650 on Friday night where he dropped over 40 seconds!

ONWARD...

FISH coaches are looking forward to a great fall finale at the Reindeer Mini Meet, Christmas Championships and the Tom Dolan Invitational. Athletes should be getting their entry forms in their boxes over the next few days. Stay on target, keep working hard, stick together and we will continue to have a great season!
