Officials Needed

Dear FISH Parents,

In order to organize our team hosted meets, we are encouraging our parents to become officials. As many of you already know, we host four meets per season and we need many officials to run our meets.  Our tentative meet schedule looks as follows:

  1. November Open at Cub Run - November 6th through 8th
  2. Fish Qualifier at Spring Hill RECenter - February 6th and 7th
  3. Fish Derby at GMU (Fairfax) - May 8th and 9th
  4. June Invitational at GMU (Fairfax) - June 12th and 13th

In order to make these meets a success for our swimmers, PVS requires us to provide enough officials to host a meet.  Some of you are already certified Stroke and Turn Judges, Starters, some parents are very experienced on the Colorado Timing System, some know Hy-Tek Meet Manager etc.. PVS just released its schedule for the upcoming workshops so that you can train to become certified (or even more certified) in any of these areas.

My experience in Germany was one that could be described as amazing and so much fun. It was the first time I had been out of the country, and the first time I had been alone, away from my parents for so long. Although I missed my parents and family a lot, I had the constant support and company of my teammates.

This experience allowed me to bond more with my teammates, and make a lot of new and extremely nice friends. While in Germany we did so many cool and really fun things. One of my favorite things we did while we were in Germany was go on about a four-hour canoe ride, and afterwards, we had a picnic along the river. Also, I really enjoyed going to the beach and going to other cities in Germany such as Dusseldorf. I made so many memories in Germany, and would love to go again soon.

Awesome FISH, Incredible FISH, Terrific FISH, and Advanced Age Group

Westwood Country Club will still be open to their members until 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, September 19, just like last Saturday. Therefore, our practices have been moved back 90 minutes, just like last Saturday.

We mentioned this to all the swimmers who showed up last Saturday, but there were several not in attendance.  This memo is to convey that information. In addition, I erroneously mentioned to the Terrific FISH that their practice would be the same time for this Saturday, not realizing that they do not have practice this Saturday, but on Sunday, September 20th.

The practice schedule for this weekend is as follows; all other practices originally listed on the early season schedule are unchanged.

Germany was an awesome experience for me.  I've never done anything like this before.  Meeting new people and seeing the kids who visited us in America was so great.  I learned so much from this trip, including how to speak a little bit of German!  The sites we went to see were amazing and from the top of the Cathedral and the other tours we took, we could see so much and they were very cool and interesting!  My favorite part of the trip was when we went canoeing and later had a barbeque at the outdoor pool.  Being with everyone and just hanging was tons of fun.  This was a great experience for me and I hope we all get a chance to do something like this again and to see the Germans we met again!

Please note that practice times for Saturday, Sept. 19th at  Westwood Country Club practices are as follows:

Awesome Swimmers:  your practice starts at 6:00 PM!

Incredible Swimmers:  your practice will start at 6:15 PM!

Terrific Swimmers: your practice will start at 6:15 PM!

Brooke Ream is a heigh school senior this year and she is one of the Awesome swimmers who went to Germany.

I enjoyed my 10 days in Germany, especially staying with a German family and learning many German words and customs. The SG Essen swim team was very welcoming and we formed many new friendships. We found that we had much in common, such as music, and we found we had similar personalities. I enjoyed exploring Cologne and I also like boating and spending the day outdoors with the Germans swimmers. For me, it was a very memorable experience and I appreciate FISH arranging it.

Ellie just moved up from Incredible to Awesome FISH and this is what she has to say about her recent trip to Germany with her teammates.

My experience in Germany was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. It was so much fun! I was really nervous before I went, because I have never been away from my family for so long, much less in a different country! I did get homesick, but it was worth it!

Everything was so new and different there. Everything is so much smaller and compact, and there are lots of little things that the Germans do differently. The language was really confusing, but I did learn a lot. One of my favorite things we did was when we canoed down a river and had a bbq. It was a really fun night!

Now that the Awesome FISH have just returned, the Incredible and Terrific FISH want to do some traveling too.  We are happy to announce that the Eastern States Clinic provides an exceptional educational swimming opportunity for our swimmers and Coach Gunther is planning to take you.

Here is how it will work:
