August 2009 Archives

Essen_Koeln.jpgSome of our top swimmers have been attending a training camp in Essen, Germany, since August 20th and they have had a fantastic time.  Yes, there is a lot of swimming going on with nine practices thus far and two more tomorrow, but we also have seen a lot of Germany.  Not only do people speak a different language, but they also lead a different lifestyle which was met with a lot of curiosity by our swimmers.  Staying with host families allows our swimmers to experience at least an impression of how another culture lives.

Jessica Rogers attended her first international meet, the Speedo Can Am Para Swimming Championship, in Edmonton Canada, where she walked away with two first places and the fastest current American time in the 100 breast stroke in her classification. Jessica at the age of 12,  has already achieved a qualifying time for the Paralympic Trials, in her 100 breast stroke, and placed first in the 50 breast and in the 200 breast, which were amazing swims.

Congratulations Jessica!

Age Group Champs

With the conclusion of Age Group Championships comes a time of reflection for all of the FISH athletes who participated. We had an outstanding meet with nearly everyone getting career best times, or at the very least, achieving season best times.

As a team, the FISH ended up accumulating 707 total points placing us in 5th overall.

Not only did the team overall have a great placement but we also had a couple of individuals who placed very well of their age groups high point awards. Christopher Murphy, while being only 11, proved that age is just a number by coming in 9th place for the 11-12 boys grouping, by far the highest placement of an 11 year old at this years meet. Also, Michelle Owens had a great end to her season coming in 7th in the 10 and under category, trailing her own teammate Isabella Rongione who won the high point award by winning all of her individual events and gaining 120 points.

The staff would like to thank you for making this season such a great success, and encourage you all to continue to follow our U.S. Open, Junior Nationals, and Zones qualifiers in the coming weeks. Again, congratulations to all FISH and we're looking forward to seeing you this fall.
