Megan McCreary has emerged as an outstanding and dedicated swimmer this summer.

Megan began swimming at age 7 for her local swim team, the Langley Wild Things.  After finding a love for swimming, Megan began as a Mini FISH at 9-years-old.  From there, she has moved up in the ranks of the FISH Swim Team and will be a Terrific FISH in the fall.

Megan is a diverse swimmer and says that her favorite events are the 50 free, 100 free, 200 IM, and 400 IM.  In addition, she qualified for Age Group Champs for the 400 free the first time she swam

The final day of Age Group Champs has come to a close, marking a great weekend for our individual athletes and the team as a whole.

The finals session had a number of great swims which are highlighted below...

Jason Fu continued his string of top 5 finishes with a 5th place in the 200 breaststroke, coming in with a time of 3:01.30, a drop of 4 seconds from his preliminaries time! Chris Murphy ended up finishing off his weekend with a pair of 4th place finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:11.42) and 50 freestyle (28.52), which caps off his weekend with a top 4 finish in each of his individual races.

Michelle Owens also finished strong with an 8th place in the 100 backstroke (1:27.91) and 3rd place in the 400 freestyle (5:33.35), also cementing her weekend with top 8 finishes in each of her individual events.

Alex Pennington had a couple of great swims in the 200 backstroke and the 100 freestyle, finishing in 12th (2:28.95) and 15th (1:01.23) respectively.

One of the best weekends ever enjoyed by a Fish swimmer now belongs to Isabella Rongione who ended up closing out her weekend undefeated in all individual events when she won the 400 freestyle, in near record time of 5:12.02, and the 100 butterfly in 1:16.05.

The Fish had a great weekend and ended up placing 5th overall at Age Group championships! Thank you all for your hard work and dedication this summer and helping us to complete this great achievement.

While Saturday was a small session for the Fish with only 9 swimmers, there was nothing small about their performances.

Amy Owens continues to have a strong meet with a 7th place finish in the 400 freestyle in a time of 5:14.41, a drop of nearly 20 seconds from her previous time of 5:32.59! Congratulations Amy! Chris Murphy also continues to impress following up his pair of 3rd place finishes with a 2nd place in the 400 freestyle in 4:45.01.

The foursome of Megan Murphy, Katie Neubig, Ellie Belilos and Elizabeth Longosz represented the Fish well in the 1500 free by taking 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th places and dropping a combined time of nearly 3 minutes! Also joining the list of time drops was David Gent in the 400 freestyle when he went from a 5:56.83 to a 5:48.36.

Today is the final day of the championship meet, which is sure to bring many more outstanding performances for the Fish.

The FISH continued their success on Friday at Age Group champs, placing numerous swimmers in the top 16 and having a number more qualify for finals.

Some outstanding swims from the morning sessions included Amy Owens dropping 3 seconds in her 200 fly from 3:03.05 to 3:00.13, Ryan Lucas dropping 3.5 seconds in the 100 breaststroke from 1:41.05 down to a 1:37.70, and Claire Wolff having a fantastic swim in the 100 breaststroke dropping nearly 8 seconds from 1:51.24 all the way down to 1:43.77! Another swimmer who has been having a great meet is Bryce Onozuka, he has been getting career best times in chunks, and things were no different in the 100 breaststroke when he dropped an astounding 9 seconds from 2:00 to 1:51.51!

As for the finals session, the Fish again, were well represented. Veronica Wolff was the first swimmer to demonstrate the Fish's ability by taking 9th place overall in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:58.40. Jason Fu and Chris Murphy each collected their second top 5 finishes by each taking 3rd place in the 100 breaststroke and 50 backstroke respectively. Rounding out our top 8 finishers were Michelle Owens taking 7th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:37.15, 4th in the 200 freestyle in 2:38.54, and Megan Murphy taking 8th in the 100 back with a time of 1:12.86.

Also, Isabella Rongione won the 200 freestyle in 2:27.45, which continues her undefeated streak at this year's championship meet.

Be sure to wish all these swimmers congratulations if you have the opportunity to see them.

Due to scheduling difficulties at Lake Newport, we have had to make revisions to the last two weeks of our summer schedule.  Please use the following schedule for the remainder of your summer.

The PVS Long Course Age Group Championships are well underway and our swimmers are truly looking like FISH in water.

Due to the great effort of our swimmers this summer they are performing beautifully in the pool recording numerous season and lifetime best times. Some highlights include Michelle Owens taking 5th place in the 50M breaststroke in a time of 44.59 seconds, and 6th place in the 100M freestyle in 1:14.13. Jason Fu also had a top 5 finish in the 50M breaststroke, taking 4th place overall in a time of 37.56. Chris Murphy showed some strength in the 100M freestyle by being the only 11 year old to make finals and then muscling his way to a 3rd place finish in a time of 1:02.26.

Possibly the greatest highlight of them all was Isabella Rongione's finishing a perfect 3-for-3 in her finals appearances and heading into Fridays races undefeated. Isabella motored through the pool in the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:07.87, the 50 butterfly in 33.80, and the 200 Individual Medley in 2:47.21, dropping a combined 11.36 seconds along the way!

Over the past weeks we have been conducting stroke clinics at Audrey Moore helping many NVSL swimmers to better their strokes.  Coaches are actually in the water to improve each swimmer's stroke.  We are also using under water stroke analysis as a tool to make the swimmers perfect their stroke.  The under water camera has been a tremendous tool in showing the swimmers how they can improve their strokes by changing just minor details.  It is amazing what can be accomplished in just one hour by our experienced and knowledgeable USA Swimming coaches.  It is this passion and dedication that makes our program a success.

If you are interested in learning more about our satellite program, please email Monika Paris or call her at 703-870-8664.
With the World Trials in full swing, the three FISH swimmers who are participating in the meet are gearing up for their races on Sunday.  Matthew Benecki, Michael Flach and Adam Pennington will be swimming the 1500 m Freestyle event on Friday. Earlier in the week, Matthew Benecki swam the 400 free in a time of 4:06.70.

I recently came across a list Top 30 Foods for Swimmers published by USA Swimming which you might find helpful when you try to refuel your body after swim practice.  In addition, you will enjoy reading the article on The Art of Recovery as it addresses the five very important elements of a successful recovery; Cool-Down - Eat - Stretch - Massage - Sleep.
